During the summer of 2021, one of my hometown friends Kevin contacted me. He had recently founded metallic hardcore band in Memphis called Anemoia, and they were close to finishing their very first album. While wrapping up the mastering and engineering process, Kevin entrusted me with creating both the logo for the band as well as artwork for the album.

When developing the logo, he wanted a strong-looking font that I could do whatever I wanted with, as long as it was hand-drawn. Inspired by logos of  bands Converge, Dying Fetus, and Sanguisugabogg, I created a logo with heavy weighted strokes that formed the narrow letters. I then steeped them in dripping candlewax that piece together the logo as a patchwork of separate blood-thick droplets. The result was an aggressive, oozing logo sure to resonate with the music’s speed, intensity, and attitude. Multiple color options were created to show its flexibility.

The cover illustration shows a figure clothed in ancient funeral garb, holding the burial urn of a deceased loved one. To emphasize the serious atmosphere, the mourner’s gaze is downcast and smothered in shadow. To add depth and atmosphere, I layered in textures in black and gray, with some plumes sweeping across the figure.
