The Portal

5” x 7” ink on 140lb watercolor paper

Dreaming of being elsewhere has been a consistency in my life, but it had become more intense and straining amidst the 2020 pandemic. What does it mean to be here? What does it mean to be anywhere? If I imagine being somewhere else and my body relays all the signals that tell me I am there, did I actually go somewhere else? What does it mean to exist in both time and space?

Religious leaders, fiction writers, and scientists around the world have all pondered these questions, but only scientists dare to discover the real, unbiased answers. Many theoretical physicists and astronomers question these things daily, pushing us closer and closer to doing the impossible. We can leave our planet, we can split atoms, we can see invisible spectrums of light, and perhaps soon with this knowledge, we can move between time and space at will. The portal is a doorway to the impossible.
