Coffee Cake

In 2019, Dark Matter Coffee held an open call for artist submissions for work to be used on an internal use card. The card needed to include a subtle DMC branding as well as be somewhat ambiguous for general use. This project is my submission to this open call to artists.

As a barista for DMC, I am highly familiar with the menu and so drew from that knowledge to make this series. The coffee cake drawings take the literal cup in which three different drinks are served and depicts them as though they were cut through with a knife in three-quarter view. 

The first image above is called a cortado, and it is served in a small 4oz chalice, the second is a mug of drip coffee, and the final illustration is a 12oz latte served in a rocks glass. The colors that accompany the drawings are vibrant yet relaxing, reflecting the very atmosphere and personality of the baristas, roasters, and administration at DMC.
